Menden, 09.12.2024 – Hermann Josef Schulte, managing partner and founder of the family-owned company HJS Emission Technology GmbH & Co. KG (“HJS Emission Technology“) from Menden / Sauerland, has concluded an agreement with the listed company DEUTZ AG (“DEUTZ“) from Cologne for the acquisition of 50% of the shares in HJS Emission Technology by DEUTZ. With this step, the two companies are further expanding their long-standing partnership and pooling their expertise to drive forward the development of efficient and environmentally friendly technologies even more intensively. Upon completion of the transaction, Hermann Josef Schulte will hand over the management of the company to the future CEO Robin Trompetter and will remain active as an advisor and consultant for HJS Emission Technology; in addition, the Schulte family will remain a major shareholder of HJS Emission Technology. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to be completed by the beginning of 2025.
The investment strengthens DEUTZ’s expertise as a leading manufacturer of innovative drive systems in the field of exhaust gas aftertreatment and ensures the long-term stability of the supply chain. In future, HJS Emission Technology will supply a large proportion of the exhaust systems from Menden directly to the DEUTZ sites.
HJS Emission Technology is a recognized specialist in exhaust aftertreatment and is particularly well established in the area of high-volume production with a wide range of variants. This expertise will enable DEUTZ to respond even more flexibly and innovatively to the individual requirements of its customers with its wide range of engines.
DEUTZ and HJS Emission Technology have enjoyed a trusting and successful supplier/customer relationship for decades. In the past, HJS Emission Technology has already made a decisive contribution to ensuring the high standards of DEUTZ drives. The entry of DEUTZ as a shareholder and the associated further intensification of the cooperation will pave the way for further innovations – for example in the field of hydrogen technology.
In high-performance applications such as construction and agricultural machinery, the combustion engine will remain the central technology for the foreseeable future. The use of renewable fuels makes it possible to operate these engines in a climate-friendly way. At the same time, increasing demands on efficiency and emissions reduction are essential in order to jointly align future viability. With the decline in conventional automotive applications, the development capacities available on the market for these technologies are dwindling. This makes strategic partnerships such as this all the more important in order to maintain and expand technical expertise in Germany and continue to supply high-quality products.
Hermann Josef Schulte, founder and CEO of HJS Emission Technology, explains: “We are delighted to take our successful cooperation with DEUTZ to a new level. With our know-how and many years of experience in exhaust gas aftertreatment, we can develop future-proof technologies together with DEUTZ. This merger is a strong signal for Germany as an industrial location.
With this strategic partnership, DEUTZ and HJS Emission Technology are setting the course for the increased expectations of their customers. The focus here is on both the further development of low-emission drive technologies and compliance with international standards in order to meet the diverse requirements of global markets. I am also particularly pleased to personally pass the baton on to the next generation with the completion of this transaction. Robin Trompetter as CEO. I will remain associated with HJS Emission Technology as a shareholder, advisory board member and consultant.”
